Shwing This!
Back in November when I ran Gabe’s Run, the 5K trail run the day after Thanksgiving, my husband bought me these wings after the race. I LOVED them. I had such wings that day. Wings that took me through the 3.25 miles of trails. Wings that soared with my son as he ran his first 1 mile race. I held my breath the whole way and I was elated as he crossed the finish line.

I had wings when on the drive home from the race my husband decided that he and I would run a 5K together in the Spring!
These fabulous wings are to be attached to your running kicks! I love my running shoes. They are my wings. My running is a very personal thing. I’ve built a relationship with my running. It makes me feel strong. Healthy. Free. Like I’m flying.
Our spring 5K will be the “Chase the Gorilla down Argilla” 5K. This a YMCA sponsored run down a beautiful road towards Crane’s Beach. It’s actually on my birthday. I will be 47 years old. And I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday.
I haven’t really started to train specifically for this race.

I’ve been running continually since Gabe’s Run. I run three times a week. And I’m averaging about 9 miles a week.
That was it.For a while there I was increasing my speed. It was hard and it made me not want to run 3 miles. I was struggling. Then one day I decided to slow my pace and enjoy the 3miles.
What a difference.
I don’t need to run fast. I just want to run. And I want to enjoy my run. Nothing else.
I just want to run three times a week. And be free.
Have I thought about training for my 5K in April. Sure.
I’m running full time on the treadmill right now. It won’t be until March that I have a chance to maybe get out on the road.
I’m looking forward to that. I found this fall that when I run outside I run faster.
I fly like the wind!

So awesome!!! I am inspired by those who run, no matter their pace. It seems to make them so happy!! Your wings are great! Maybe one day I’ll put my feet to running…

I love this. I am hoping after I have my ankle/foot surgery that at some point the doctor will give me the go ahead to try running. Its posts like this that are keeping the desire in my head. Keep up the great work Tracy.

I would love to run, but due to back problems and multiple surgeries, it’s just not possible. I enjoy aerobic classes. I tend to work harder and try to keep up with the others. When working out on a machine, I tend to go slower, but I need to remind myself that walking or running 3 miles is still 3 miles completed. On a different note, what type of sports bra do you use? I don’t like it when my deflated breasts jiggle and move. It’s very uncomfortable. The other issue I have is if the band is too tight, my water doesn’t go down easy and it’s very uncomfortable. I’ve actually thrown up water when exercising. I’m thinking it’s like having a Lapband that has too much restriction. I’ve even had problems with my normal bras and sometimes after eating, I have to take off my bra to help get my food down. I’m a RNY patient. Have you ever had this problem or know of others that have had this problem? I’m 2 years post op. I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon at the end of this month and am planning on asking him about this. Thank you for your blog!! I really enjoy your posts!!

Hi Julie, I have not had an issue with pressure from my bar causing swallowing or water passage. Things I have noticed are that my sternum is much more pronounced and I believe this is because when I was obese it was pushed out. This sometimes bothers me when I am laying on my belly. I have had an issue in the past with drinking water during exercise but it is typically because I have consumed the water too fast!! This is a link to the the sports bra I wear. It was the first one I tried and I love it. I have a handful of them. I will also wear them under sport tanks to keep the sister in control. Thanks so much for your comment. I would definitely go over these questions with your surgeon. Please do come back and share anything you learn that may help others. thanks.

LOVE the wings for your shoes! I’d love to get into running but not sure my knees and ankles could take it. I do prefer my elliptical – we have a love hate relationship for sure. HATE getting on it but love the workout I get when my hour is over
