Regain Happens, if You Allow it to

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Best of 2012, Chronicles

Felt like I needed to write about this today. As you may know I am currently working on losing my regain which I have maintained for about 8 years.

My story tells you the details of the beginning of my journey. But I am almost 12 years post RNY weight loss surgery and I am working hard to lose some regain. I have about 35 pounds to lose to get to my lowest weight after weight loss surgery.

Why did I have regain? …

Sat on the Bench Today

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

My little guy sat on the bench today. He woke up sick today after the holiday weekend. Nothing worse for a Mom then having a sick kid. It hurts so bad when they aren’t themselves or aren’t hungry. Or they want to go up to their bed for a nap. I just wanted him to be his same old loud, active, food consuming self.

Nope all day he had a fever and went to bed with one too. I thought a lot today about what it was like being sick as a kid…

Owning It

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

Getting on the scale this morning and owning what I saw on the scale was my victory today. It was a bitter sweet victory.

I have two mountains to climb.

1. Not reacting emotionally to the number on the scale. That is, owning the number on the scale. When I step on the scale it should not be a surprise.  I know the scale will register based on my actions. That’s just a fact.  I need to get real with this process.  I need to step on the scale and get real with it everyday.

2. Addressing the fact that I eat in an uncontrolled manner on the weekend.  I was overeating this weekend. Now I can’t eat much at one time BUT I can eat a little continually. Not a good approach to weight loss.  And I am trying to take off 40 pounds of regain.

These are my mountains. And I’m strapping on my boots to climb them.  Here’e my plan…

Satisfied

This past week was my birthday.

It crept up on me. But I must say it was tranquil and satisfying. There were no bows or ribbons. There were no parties with lots of friends and hoopla…

some favorite things

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

Recently I’ve received the same questions from a handful of people. “What are your favorite weight loss surgery things?”

some favorite things some favorite things Well they all didn’t ask it that way but I’m summarizing. What are the things that I use to keep my tiny tank happy. The things I use to live a post weight loss surgery life.

Here’s my quick summarization of my must haves. You know I could go on and on on this topic but I’m going to try and keep it short and sweet and get to bed….

Doug’s Nuts Give-a-way

Doug's nuts

The current monthly raffle is going to be for some nuts, Doug’s Nuts!   Lisa from Doug’s Nuts sent us some delicious nuts that we sampled and let me tell you they did not last for long!  They are crazy good snack nuts!  You might have seen Snack Girls write up on them.  The nuts are roasted and coated in a salty-sweet glaze of organic sugarcane, blackberry honey, vanilla, sea salt, and oatmeal stout – a flavor combination that my husband LOVED!  The light vanilla flavor really made them delicious.  Here are some more FAQs about Doug’s Nuts.

Not My Typical Day

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

Today was not my typical Thursday. It was Jury Duty for me today. Did you know that it was the state or Massachusetts who led our country in the one day one trail process? I learned that today. In 1982 the laws were changed so no one was exempt from jury duty and every registered voter would serve one day or one trial every three years. And in fact women did not participate in the jury process until…

A New Water Loading Process

We started the next Accountability Mondays session this week. My goal for the next 6 weeks is to improve on my water consumption.  I’m hoping not only to improve my water intake but that this increased water intake will replace any snacking. The evil snacking, BE GONE!  I’m going to start by reducing my Iced Chai Tea Latte habit to one in the morning and then the rest of the day is water.

Vitamin Regime

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles, Vitamins

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is about what vitamins I take. I am a long term post op weight loss surgery patient and therefore my vitamin needs are very different from a newly post op patient. You should only take supplements based on your doctors recommendation.

The vitamins I take currently are

The Water Factor

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

I’ve never been great at drinking all my water and in fact I’ve never really pushed myself.
slide3a 300x130 The Water Factor
I do drink quite a bit of liquids so hydration has never been an issue for me. And in fact I do like water. I follow quite a few weight loss bloggers and some of them are champions at consuming water. Those people are typically also athletes too and when working out you must drink water to stay healthy. In fact I find my body demands water when I am working out. This is not new news. But does water help with weight loss or healthy living?

Looking Back

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

There’s something about holiday weekends that makes me think back, reminisce.  In fact today in the early evening we lost power so in an effort to stay amused, my Lark and I spent some time looking back at photos from years past.

It was fun seeing his face as he was amazed at how young we were when we got married.  I was surprised that he thought I was not as pretty as I am today…. his words.  Big smile here!

He had a hard time looking at pictures of himself as a infant, I heard a lot of ewwwws!  It’s got to be the 8 year old mentality.  I can barely say romance these days without getting scolded.  ”Mommmmm, don’t say that!”

But one photo we both agreed on was this one…

Addressing my Regain

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

This blog post is a little scary for me to write.

I have just under 40 pounds of regain to lose to get back to my lowest weight, 157.

Note: I am almost 12 years post RNY.  My surgery date was 7/24/2000.  I weighed 325.

I’ve been mulling about talking about my regain for the past year.

It’s taken some time for me to regain my recommitment … no pun intended.

When we lose the majority of our weight we…

Slow and Steady

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

So as you know after last weeks Owning It blog post I have been working on my regain in a slow and steady manner. My ultimate objective to loose the forty pounds of regain I have maintained for 8 years. I proclaimed the mountains I had to climb: not getting emotional about getting on the scale and controlling my intake during the weekends. Well this week I did well. I tracked my food and kept it clear in my mind that this would be a slow and steady process. I weighed myself daily not because I think everyone should but because I need to get comfortable with the scale again. I need to understand again that some days I’ll be up and others I’ll be down. But ultimately on Mondays if I’ve followed my calorie/protein plan then the scale should be down. The scale shows the reality and this week it did…

Our Day

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

I had the day off today, not a vacation day but a day where the office was closed.

day off Our Day

No one else was there. I know, you’re thinking what is the difference. For some reason I always feel a little more at ease when no one else is working. Maybe it’s because I know there won’t be tons of emails in my box… well I guess India is working so there will be some. The world doesn’t stop anymore. But for today…

Bone Density Exam

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

Today I finally got a bone density exam. A couple years ago my PCP and I attempted to order one due to my long term post op gastric bypass years. My insurance at the time wouldn’t go for it. I wasn’t old enough. Since I wasn’t willing to shell out $3,000 I decided to keep up my calcium and move on.
When my calcium came up low on my annual check up this year we tried again. I now have a different insurance company and with a call ahead they approved the exam due to the low vitamin D and calcium in my recent labs.
So here I was today, at the woman’s center slipping into one of these:

Cars, Camping, Pizza and Shopping Huh?

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

A mish mash Saturday. Some new car parts, a visit to LL Bean, our favorite pizza haunt and some returns.

Errands are not my Larks favorite pastime.  I basically have to coerce him into coming with me. But I always try to make it fun in some way.  I had some furniture to return to LL Bean.  After the dirty work was done and one painful visit to the woman’s dressing room (might I say it was painful for both of us) we had a chance to check out the more fun things in LL Bean.  Like the big fish tank, the bikes and best of all the TENTS!!

The Day I Met My Husband

Eleven years ago today I met my husband. It was a day that changed my life forever. Like weight loss surgery, this fateful event has lifted me up and changed my life for the best.

Winners and Losers

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles

20120325 142408 Winners and LosersThere were lots of life lessons this weekend. We attended our second karate tournament this weekend. My Lark, a new blue belt had registered for the forms event and the sparing event. At eight years old, awareness of winning seems to be growing but the clarity of comparison of self to others is still unclear.

When we attended the event last year there was delight to just to attend. Although I recall my nervousness last year, I do not recall my Lark being nervous. He was a gracious contender and enjoyed the event without taking home a winning.  This year there were butterflies…

Turn the Beat Around

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Best of 2012, Chronicles

I started today in an ok mode, but as the morning lumbered along an increased sense of overwhelmingness (I know that’s not a word) came over me. I was trying to do so many things for so many people that I felt as if each of my four limbs was being pulled off.  I started to feel very angry and grumpy!

It was a spectacularly warm day out and it was approach mid day.  Why was I still inside?

All Dressed Up

There is truly something to taking the time to doll yourself up.

Taking the time to make yourself up is all worth it. As you are losing weight, take the time to go out and pick yourself up some new clothes. Check out the consignment shops. Or do what I did
