Me And My Bathing Suit Body Image

When you take a beach vacation it means bathing suit time. And this may seem like a no brainer. But if you’ve been overweight if not obese most of your life than it can be stressful. Last year I wore black. This year I went for more color. Why? Well I had some encouragement and I wanted to feel good about me.

I hadn’t planned on displaying pictures of myself in a swimsuit on my blog. Even I am a little wiggy about it.

But I decided this morning that it was important to share with myself and my readers how I look.

It also helps me look at myself.

I need to look at myself.

I need to be VERY aware and honest with myself on how I look.

There was a time recently when I avoided the mirror. I was avoiding myself.

Not good.

How did I overcome this?

I’m not sure I’m completely out of the woods yet.

What I do know is that I have to keep looking. Sometimes I like what I see. Sometimes I don’t.

I started My Love Thyself Challenge a year ago. I basically started taking pictures of myself everywhere I went.

I started a love affair with myself. I was determined to get to know that girl in the mirror. The one who seemed to avert my every look.

I had also noticed that I was always the one in my family taking pictures and there were none of me. I discussed it with my husband and now he will take the camera and make sure I’m in the pictures too.

But you know, why wait for someone else. Take a picture of yourself.

Be responsible for pursuing your personal relationship with YOU.

These are a few blog posts I wrote during my process of loving myself.

Who’s that Girl

My Love Thyself Challenge

A Good Close Look at Myself

Someone Like You

See Yourself

How Others See You

Feeling Good in Your Own Skin

My challenge it’s still going on. I’m much more in love with myself than I was before.

But you need to work on any relationship including the one with yourself.

Do you like you? Have you complimented yourself recently? What’s stopping you?

Have you snapped a picture of yourself lately? Go ahead do it right now.

I’m waiting.

Keep taking them until you get one you like.

Let me know how it goes.

Yay you! You look like you’re having a great time, too!

Hey Jan. I have really winded down. We have been walking the beach each day as our exercise. Not everyone makes it to the black. But me I’ve been there everyday!!

I love these photos – you look happy, and isn’t that the most important thing? But my favorite is the hot pink suit photo – you look confident, and elegant! Looks like you’re having an amazing time and creating great memories. Enjoy!!

What a great post. Very fitting since I am in the midst of a beach vaca right now. Even after being down 100 lbs and wearing btw an 8/10 I still don’t love the “new” me (its been 3 yrs). I look in the mirror and still see a size 22. I am working on it, but I still hate pics

Hi Maura. Thanks for your comment. It was honest and that is what I was aiming at too. I can’t say I liked my bathing suit photographs. But it’s me and I’m working on liking who I am. I find if I keep looking then I am more accepting.

Love the suits especially the pink one. I still haven’t overcome avoiding the camera. Also haven’t bought a bathing suit since I’ve had surgery. But your post is quite encouraging and I think perhaps it’s time I look for one for our family vacation in August. Great post!

Hi Penny. Best thing I did was buy my self a few non black suits!!! Thanks to a skinny friend who made that suggestion to me. I say go for it!!! It has made me feel great!!

Good for you!! Swimsuit season is very stressful. I still have trouble getting my picture taken. Each day, I try to do better, regardless of what it is.

Hi Julie. Thanks. I know I’m not alone and that us exactly why I wrote this post. I thought I need to show readers not to be afraid. So here I am for all to see. It wasn’t too bad.

I think you look mah-velous dahling!! I like the floral top bathing suit – I too have lived in a black bathing suit – forever. I actually own one bathing suit right now – and it is a hand me down from my Mom. I try to avoid them at all costs – which is ridiculous. It’s hard to stop picking at the flaws – my saggy belly, my legs (see what I mean!!!). I need to be kinder to the “new” me – she’s way better off than the old me!

Hi Donna you run right out and buy yourself a rock’n bathing suit! You will feel better for it! When I get home the old black ones are headed to Good Will.
