Less is More
I’ve mentioned before that I have mantra’s that I use throughout my days. These phrases help to drive me through the moments of my day whether I need some extra strength or a reminder or some motivation. I repeat them to myself and they give me strengthen and direction as I move forward. So basically I talk to myself. You may be thinking what’s a mantra?
a man·tra is a noun A word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation. A statement or slogan repeated frequently. source: Google dictionary
Today I drew upon one particular mantra and it graciously supported me as I conquered my day.

You may be thinking that I was drawing upon this quote as my mantra because I wanted to focus on my food portions, but in fact I was focusing on my Fall cleaning. When I woke up this morning my husband had plans for us. I wasn’t quite on board. It was a rainy weekend for us, a good time to clean house. But he not only wanted to clean house he wanted to clean out.
I found myself fighting his recommendations. Control has been an issue for me since I became a mother and I have been learning how to let go of the control lately. So I asked myself “why am I bucking his suggestion to clean out?” Yes I was talking to myself again.
So I let go and we headed into a day of cleaning out! Yahoo, it was great! Now let me qualify by saying we are actually pretty cleaned out to start with. We’ve been in purge mode for about a year. So that is actually why I was feeling like bucking my husbands suggestions. But today we still cleared out a lot of things we weren’t using and didn’t need to keep around.
I repeated my mantra “Less is More” quite a bit today and it carried me through the day along with the delight of my son’s participation in all our cleaning. How I love a 7 year old with a Swiffer in hand. A Swiffer wasn’t the only thing he was wielding today. Of course seeing this also brighten my step today.
We all have some form of self talk. It can be very powerful. Mantras are a powerful way to support our goals during the day. Whether you are trying to stay on track with your portions or your maintaining your exercise; determine what your mantras should be. Just remember “Less is More” and don’t go too crazy. A mantra is simple phrase and should be positive and easy to repeat.
Do you already talk to yourself? What are your mantras and how have they helped you through your weight loss journey?
This is what my food looked like today:
| Food | Comments |
|---|---|
| baked bacon and eggs hot chai tea with half and half |
You’ve got to love Bacon Sunday it makes everyone happy at my house |
| half a peanut butter and jam sandwich one oz of pretzels |
this is not a typical lunch for me. I was sharing my sons lunch. I will say it tasted great. Bread is typically not my friend but I had no issues. |
| Salsa Chicken Tacos which included sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa, avocado and of course salsa chicken | I ate 2 tacos tonight that’s alot for me. I was more full then I like to be. |
| Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Brownie mini cup | Big time treat!!! Had this later in the evening. I did not dump. It was so yummy and it makes me think of one of my favorite mantras. The first few bites are the best so you only need a a few. and that is true with the mini cups they are small!!! Perfect for me. |

I don’t use mantras usually but I will keep talking to myseld when I feel like giving up. I talked myself up a 14,000+ ft mountain two summers ago and I talked myself to the finish line of my recent 5k. When im alone, i will talk to myself outloud. “You can do this” is usually the mantra lol

I’ve been real focused on the whole concept of “less” today. Came across the “Zen Habits” blog today, I’ve seen it before. Leo’s book “Power of Less” is very provocative. check it out http://tiny.cc/9z6os
I think this will be my next read. On my iPad using my Kindle app of course!!
