Kindness
The Whistler mentioned to me the other day that he had decided on a life goal. Hmmm really?! I thought. I thought for a boy approaching his ninth birthday this was quite mature. He continued to share with me what he had decided would be his life’s goal.
I was prepared for words like
race car driver
Lego designer
Cupcake tester
But in his composed way he began to explain to me that his goal was not a long term goal but one that he thought should be reached each day.
He told me he wanted to be a good person.
But not just a goal to be a good person.
But,
To be a good person each day!!!
Ahhh
There it was.
He teaches me something everyday.
There he was.
Being a good person Today.

You and your husband must be very proud of the Whistler. He sure has good role models in his life. Nice to hear these words coming from a youngster.

Hi Wendy. Yeah he caught me off guard on this one. I liked how he made his goal not something he will strive to reach in the long term but it is something he can strive for each day. Very insightful. I have been inspired by this. thanks for your kind words.

Wow, what a proud moment for a parent. I’m sitting here with a feeling of happiness for all of you…..it’s a great feeling when your kid throws you a curve ball like that!

Isn’t it amazing how they can surprise us? When we think they aren’t listening…they are actually soaking IT ALL in and forming it in their “cute little brains!” I’m so happy for you….and I KNOW you have to be proud!

Hi Amanda, I love 4 years old such a fun age!! So much happens between 4 and 9. Mine will be 9 next week. I’ve always tried to let the Whistler know he should trust his instinct. Go with his heart. I guess it has sunk in.

Your son has more kindness and compassion than some people 2,3,4 times his age. Be proud of him and yourselves, it takes skill to raise a child with that kind of mind. Congratulations on doing a great job!

thanks Deb. I have to say he is a ‘keeper.” In many ways I think he came with that compassion. He has always had this composure about him. And I was so happy he came with a snuggly level of LOVE too. thank you God!!
