Happy Trails

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Family Time, Get Active, Staying Healthy

If you follow me, which sounds very self centered, oh well. But if you follow me then you know that last weekend I was not in the best way. I was very un-enchanted with the cold weather. I made the mistake of NOT getting outside for my usual weekend activities.  I promised myself that I would not make the same mistake this weekend!

My week was good.  I executed on my running plan and this kept my mind and body happy.  I carried out three miles on all three days; Monday, Wednesday and Friday!  A stellar accomplishment for a girl who was coming out of a weekend of grumpiness.

I was able to do this because I knew my grumpiness was DIRECTLY associated with my lack of activity!

I’ll repeat.

This girls bad attitude was DIRECTLY associated with her lack of activity!

I’ve learned this.  Maybe this a non scale victory!  I mindfully won’t be doing this again.

On to the good stuff.

This weekend was COLD.  It was even colder than last weekend.  But I was on a mission.  And the boys knew it.

We would be doing our regular trail hikes whether there was rain, snow or shine!!

This is the photo journal of our Saturday Hike.  Enjoy the story of Happy Trails.

We have a local national park.  It is our sanctuary.  Whether it is spring, summer, winter or fall you can find us here.  Walking, hiking, mountain biking and sometimes running.  There are a multitude of trails.  We know most of them.  We travel them all.  They are never the same as weather conditions change them.

while we were hiking we came across this.

OH MY GOD, I hate getting on the treadmill. After getting on and walking for about 2 minutes I am fine with the whole thing. Nike was right…just do it, ya know? I feel so much better when I have accomplished my 30 minutes.
I thought that there was no way that I could go beyond 20 minutes, but I proved myself wrong this last week. Life is good!

Oh my gosh, I’m so envious you can hike this time of year! I suppose I could too, if I didn’t mind wearing hip waders for the mud, and sticking to the lowland trails. But to me, the very essence of hiking is being up in the mountains, with rushing creeks, and alpine lakes, and soaring view. I won’t be able to do that until maybe June? Boo….
So, for now, it’s treadmill, and elliptical, and stationary bike for me, and the occasional LONG LONG LONG beach wog (walk/jog).
I still love how I feel when I’m doing any of those things, but it’s not like the exhilaration and heart joy and inner peace of real hiking. And there’s nothing that quite compares to the feeling of a well-deserved lunch and hot shower, with happy but exhausted muscles, and a camera full of beautiful shots. Mmm…. hiking.

I love, love these photos of you. So much joy!

Exercise makes me feel alive. I was always a person who wished she would get up and off her butt, but never did. I made myself start moving every day back in December, just one walk with the dog a day. Now we’re up to three miles a day spread over three walks, and I make sure that I’m as active as possible all the time, outside of that. I also spend time at the gym regularly. It makes me feel good. I would miss it if I didn’t do it, and I am so grateful for that.

Hi Melanie I like your three miles across three walks idea!! I need to increase my steps on my non run days and I’ve been trying to figure our how I am going to do that. I like your idea!! I can take small breaks and get in one mile! thanks for your comment.
