Easy Ice tea

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Beverages, Chronicles

My mom was a depression baby.  You may have heard that term before.  She was born in 1932 and has great stories of how her family of 12 lived off the land in the berkshires during the depression.  Ten kids.  That always takes me back a bit.  Impressive. Growing up my mom always lived in a manner of simple resourcefulness.  As a mom I find myself mirroring some of her behaviors.  Not all of her exact practices but frugal simple habits that my friends tend to pick up on and huh try themselves.  I wanted to share one with you today.

My easy ice tea.  In an effort to stay away from calorie filled beverages I have learned to like ice tea.  I never liked ice tea as a kid.  But a few years ago when I gave up the evil diet coke I needed something else with caffeine!!  I tried iced tea with cream.  I know sounds funny but it works for me.  I dont use any sweetener either.  Just tea and cream.  It fuels my day. I’ve also learned to like hot tea, but today is all about EASY ICE TEA.

Here is a picture of my funny ritual.  I fill mason jars with hot water and tea bags.  I use one tea bag for the 16 oz jar and two tea bags for the 32 oz jar.  Can you see the clothes pins.  Well those keep the bag tag from slipping into the jar when you add the water.  I told you my behaiors are a bit quirky, BUT they work!! I try to make tea ahead of time and then store it in the refrigerator for easy quick access.

I will load up my Starbucks cup with ice, then tea and finally a splash of cream .  Ahhhh I think I need to leave now and go administer some TEA!

So a friend asked me “why three containers?”
I thought good question…. my kettle hold enough water to fill three containers. So I heat as much water as I can and make tea! LOL
It makes enough for 2 large mason jars and one small.

Hi Rae. I am obsessed with tea! This technique saves on buying those individual ones at the store too. Thanks for your comment.

I have started drinking a lot moreherbal tea than I used to – my current favorites are Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Sunset – (regular OR decaf) and Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice. I will drink them hot or cold. I also drink their Sleepytime teas in all varieties (Vanilla, regular, Sinus Care, etc.). I also like Stash’s Lemon Ginger.

Hi Dana, thanks for your comment. I love tea and it’s how I get most of my liquids these days. Hot cold is fuels my day!

Hi Tracy! I too love tea and can’t wait to drink it again (no caffeine for 6 months, my surgeons rule!) I’m really missing my iced and hot chai lattes! I’ve been using Mason jars for a while now to store foods and have tried the salad in a jar idea I saw on Pinterest pre-op and make them for my hubbies lunch sometimes. it really does work as long as you layer correctly. I’m pretty excited to make iced tea in a jar, that way its ready exactly when I want it! Great idea Tracy!
