Coming to an End
I can feel the summer coming to an end. My little guy starts third grade next week and I know he is ready for school as our summer activities are starting to feel like routine. He’s ready for that change. And I am too. As I look at my numbers on my Losing my Regain page I can feel good about losing almost 10 pounds this spring/summer!! Now I want to take it home and see 180 something next Monday. It will be a challenge for me. It will mean a push of exercise and sticking to the foods that are right for me.
Yesterday in the car Ryan admitted to feeling “funny” about third grade. I asked him to describe what he meant by “funny.” He said well I know we will have to write larger papers and I can’t write fast. I like to write but I need more time than the other kids to finish my paper. So I kicked into parent mode and told him how his teacher will learn from his teacher last year that he is a good writer and that he needs some extra time to get his best work done. That assurance seemed to settle well with him. But I will keep an eye on that.
Funny how we think that we need to do everything fast. The loss of my regain has been anything but FAST. But as I look at my number for the summer I am proud!! Wow, I have removed almost 10 pounds. I am happy with that and I am proud of that.
With weight loss surgery the pounds shed off and that is so exciting, but as you are in maintenance for a period of time your body gets use to a certain weight. I have to say I’ve been good at maintenance! I listen to my tiny tank and it keeps me in a good place. I’ve maintained basically the same weight for 8 years. I had started calling myself the “Master Maintainer.” Someone once said in my favorite weight watchers meeting way back when:
“You have to stop gaining weight first before you start losing weight.”
That hit home for me back then. You do in fact have to find your norm. What your body needs at it’s current weight. How to maintain your current weight. THEN, you need to change it up! It’s the changing it up that I have done over that last few months. I’ve made changes to whittle off this ten pounds.
So at times it may feel like I am losing it sooo slowly, but I am losing. And like I said to Ryan, I need a little more time to do my best work. I need to remind myself of that and assure myself of my accomplishment.
Although the Summer is ending, the Fall is almost here. It is a great time for new beginnings and may I say I great time to running outside!!
So may I say to my friends who are working on regain, “get out there” find your change and leverage this Fall feeling to get started on that new change. You can do this. I lost 10 pounds this summer! (hey that feels good!)
For those friends with that shiny new tiny tank, get out an exercise. It is something that will serve you well as you lose and learn to maintain.
Onward!
