Boys and the Band

I’m a gadget girl for sure.  And my boys are too.  There is a lot of technology in our house.  We’re an active family too.  But I must say, ever since I started training for my 5K this year did the exercise bug get contagious around my house.  I followed the Couch to 5K program to get ready for Gabes Run where I was going to be A Team of One.

 Boys and the Band

My consistent exercise regime has inspired my competitive boys.  After attending the Gabe’s Run event together the boys were hooked.  My husband decided a Spring 2013  5K was in order for both of us and I am delighted to plan on running together in an event to be determined.

As a start he decided to get an idea of how active he really was and so he picked up a Nike Fuel Band.  It’s a simple device that counts the number of steps you have in a day and it calculates a number of “fuel points” which can be tracked online.

Well because of the techie numbers people we are this Fuel Band became dinner conversation each night.  How many steps?  It became so interesting that my son actually added the Nike Fuel band to his Christmas list for Santa.

In many ways that made me smile.  I love that my boy wants something that will teach him how to be active and healthy.

The Nike Fuel Band has been a big topic of conversation for my son.  When we were at the hair salon last week the ladies were asking him all sorts of questions about it.  They texted me the other day to say they have each purchased one to help them as they kick off the new Weight Watchers program.

This thing is so simple.  It gives you concrete information on how much you have MOVED in the day.  It gets your butt moving!!!

Ok so why am I writing this post.  The boys are cracking me up!!  They are so bent on reaching their points each day.   I love it.

Tonight they didn’t quite reach their points so they are down stairs running around the house!  LOL  What a pair!  I love that they are ACTIVE!

There are a handful of movement tools out there, I’ve tried a few of them.  I have to say this product is the simplest and seems to have made the most impact.

It is easy to wear, water resistent (you dont want to shower with it on but washing hands is ok), and it has a watch button too.

Do you know how much you are moving each day?   They say 10,000 steps if you are trying to lose weight.  Are you taking 10,000 steps?

I love gadgets, too! I just got a fitbit for Christmas, and it’s very cool. It keeps track of how many hours I sleep, also, which is a goal of mine this year (to get 8 hours/night), and it hooks up to the My Fitness Pal site. The Fuel Band looks interesting, and it’s fun that your whole family is now doing it!

Hi Karen. My husband had the fitbit and it was too involving for him. The fuel band is very simple. It’s a bracket. It gives you calories. Steps. Time. And fuel points.
All he has to do is charge it.
I’ve learned the fuel points are a calculation of the level of vigor.
They are obsessed. I love it!!

Hi Julie. It is so good to have a device that helps you clearly see progress and show accountability. So worth it. Thanks for your comment.

I have had my fitbit for a few months and I love it. The band has my interest! Do you know how it compares to the fitbit?

Hi Audra. Fitbit more involved. Fuel band very simply tracks steps. Calories. And calculates a fuel point number which is related to level of vigor. Fitbit looks at sleep too. Keep me posted on your interest. I’d love to know if you try it. My boys are obsessed.
