Blackberry Ice Cream

Written by my tiny tank on . Posted in Chronicles, Dairy, Kid Friendly, Sweets

Why didn’t I think of this before? This was something I stumbled upon today. After 12 years and a pre op love of ice cream you’d think I would have figured this one out earlier. But it wasn’t until this morning that I put it all together.

I was making yogurt parfaits for the weekend. Have you seen these? They are easy to make and delicious. Portable too.

Well I had left over ingredients and so I threw them all together in the yogurt container. I was on a conference and hungry since I hadn’t had breakfast yet. The fruit was frozen so at first I didn’t think it would be too appetizing. But I was hungry and stuck on a call.

So I stirred it up thinking it would thaw the berries.

Tasted it. And WOW!

It was yummy!

I use the full fat Fage Greek Yogurt. It is very satisfying. May not be tolerated by some earlier post ops. You can use fat free.

Isn’t it great how we can continue to have new food discoveries.

I love Fage yogurt and have about 12 little containers in the fridge now. In the morning when my pouch is not quite awake and working I like to have the yogurt with a handful of raspberries and maybe some nuts. It does not always stay with me as long as other things I might eat for breakfast but my tummy always likes it and it goes down easy. I have tried to make eggfaces yogurt pops too but I did not like them as much. Maybe adding some SF pudding mix to the yogur and then freezing it? Not sure, I might just try that with some SF pistachio pudding.

    Thanks for sharing Tracy!

Cathy, I mentioned yogurt pops in my comment, and in case you don’t see that, it’s a different recipe (I think) than Eggface (at least I didn’t get it there) so I’ll send it to you so you can try it instead since you weren’t as thrilled with that recipe!

Hi Cathy, the pops are not my fav either. I make them for the Whistler he likes them. I’d prefer the yogurt. And the mixing of the forzen berries into the yogurt was YUMMO!

I made yogurt pops all the time last summer…will probably get back into the habit once it warms up because I loved them. Going to have to try with blackberries, because I adore them!

HI Julia, I love summer fruits… berries and would mourn them in the winter. But then a friend at work had a little container of them and I was like “why did you get those” and she told me how she just used the frozen ones and let them thaw…. it was like a new discovery for me!! I love when I discover something new. YUMMY

That’s one of the reasons I do like smoothies… not quite the same as ice cream shake, but still very yummy!! I will have to try your version. :) Thanks Tracy.

I wish I liked yogurt. I truly do, however, after multiple attempts I just don’t like the tangy taste.
I purchased an ice cream maker and hope to use it when the weather warms up to make protein ice cream–Eggface has lots of recipes. I’ll let you know in a few months how they turn out.
    Thank you for your blogs!!

Julie please do let me know how the Eggface ice creams go. I have not made them even though I’ve thought to many times.
