Bacon

Each Sunday at our house is “Bacon Sunday.” We started this tradition not long after I learned this trick for making bacon. Because it is so easy, we now have bacon once a week. It comes out as crispy as you want it with very little mess or clean up. It is slow cooked which prevents and spatter in your oven. If you like a crispy bacon you can just cook it a little longer until you reach crisp perfection.

bacon Bacon

Ingredients

1 lbs Premium Bacon

1 sheet of parchment paper

1 edged cookie sheet

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and make sure you have a rack in the center.

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper

Lay bacon on parchment paper with space between the pieces. I can easily get a pound of bacon (usually 9-10 pieces of bacon) on one cookie sheet.

Cook for 30 minutes or until the bacon is as crispy as you’d like it.

Remove from baker’s sheet and lay down on paper towels to blot excess oil.

Serve immediately or store in air tight container (after cooling) to use for other recipes. Cooked bacon should last in refrigerator up to 2 days.

Yum! I may have to try that this weekend! The hubby always wants breakfast on the weekends but I hate the mess that bacon cooked on the stovetop makes.. I will say though, unless the bacon is super crispy we are no longer friends.. probably a good thing b/c I could probably eat a pound of it on my own!

so the trick is. 1. Buy good bacon. 2. if you want crispy, then cook it a bit longer say 35 minutes. We love crispy too. But I’d start checking it at about 30 minutes. Each bacon is different. Don’t take it out until it is crispy enough for you. What’s nice is that it cooks in the grease but since it is cooking slowly it is not spattering. And clean up is a breeze. Roll up the parchment paper with grease into a bag and the pan is not cruddy. Get the bacon into the oven first when you start breakfast so you aren’t waiting for it. I come down and put it in and then have my tea and muttle around. I love Sundays!!!! It’s Bacon Sunday!!!

Oh this bacon is the best. And I tell you once you figure out your oven and preferred crispness you are all set. I can make perfect bacon every time without babysitting it.

Oh Sonja, the parchment paper makes it so easy. Sometimes the fat stays on the paper and I can just wrap it up and no cleaning of the pan. Usually I have a quick clean up of the pan. No crusties on the pan. SO easy and so yummy. What I like best is I don’t have to babysit the bacon on the stove. Folks always wonder if it makes my oven a mess and it DOES NOT. I’m amazed but it is cooking slowly so no spattering. thanks again for your comments.

I have been baking bacon for years…. Sooooo much better!! I make breakfast on Sunday mornings also and hubby has 3 slices. I like bacon but probably one of the few people on the planet that doesn’t love bacon. Most weekends I don’t even eat it. :-)
